Randeep Singh Surjewala took as President of Indian Youth Congress on 2nd April, 2000. Post Sanjay Gandhi era (1977-1980), when Youth Congress was at the center stage of agitations, it was Randeep's tenure that marked a new vigour in the Youth Congress.

He personally led nearly 200 major agitations in Delhi and other States on various issues besides addressing over 300 big rallies / public meetings across the country. Record reflects that Randeep and his colleagues were arrested and detained for a day in Parliament Street Police Station alone on 43 occasions.
